Filipinos whether hailed from the provinces or urban communities will always have a very strong tie with most of their blood relations. The Filipino family structure includes the immediate family members together with all other extended family members living in the same household. The support and interdependence that each member receives from and provides each other strengthen the traditionally closely knit Filipino family structure.

The distinctive Filipino family structure is focused on the unique system of caring and protection each family member is duty bound to provide for life to any member in need. The structure is built on the ideals and tradition that the needs and welfare of the majority come before those of the individual person.

Most often, a Filipino family will consist of multi-generation household because collectively, the Filipino family structure is perceived as the major source of emotional, moral as well as economical support. This is evident in how most Filipinos choose their place of abode; even when they do not stay together in one household many Filipinos will live near each other for most of their lives.

Another striking factor in a Filipino family structure is the bilateral extended kinship system where both parent’s lineage are given equal importance. Although just like the typical patriarchal system, most authority still remains with the males and the females are expected to provide but domestic support and be responsible for maintaining the cultural and familial values.

It is obvious and evident that the Filipino family structure emphasizes and highlights the close familial ties each member of the family so highly uphold.

There are countless techniques and methods to stop panic attacks. They range from medications that use drugs to treatments by means of natural remedies as well as simple procedures that do not need any sophisticated gadgets and therapies.

What we will discuss here are two very simple methods that anyone can make use in cases where there is someone having a panic attack. These two particular methods of helping someone having panic attacks are quite uncomplicated but their success will need the full cooperation of the panic attack victim.

One very straightforward and (needless to say) painless method is to make the sufferer relax. Breathing deeply is not the answer that will ward off an imminent panic attack or put a stop to one that is already in progress but it is the best and fastest way to achieve relaxation.

Encouraging a panic attack victim to learn how to breathe deeply will help pump in more oxygen into his system which will eventually slow down the heart beat and reduce the release of adrenaline. This relaxation exercise is both beneficial as a panic attack regulator as well as a plug that can bring to a halt an on-going panic attack.

Another simple and more effective technique is training and controlling the mind to think of good things rather than appalling pessimistic thoughts. This particular method is so easy to describe yet carrying it out is something of a challenge.

Asking a person to switch his thinking from one end to another will be a very hard thing to do unless the person, on his own accord, will freely do it. This is a fairly easy method but you should not underestimate the power of the human brain. In the first place, wasn’t it that the trigger and engineer of the whole panic attack is none other than the human mind?

Knowing how to help someone with panic attacks will be easier for you if you know and understand the causes of panic attack and what is the most likely ‘cure’ that you can employ for the person.

A lot of people are visiting the Philippines yet, most of them speak of the beauty of the country, the laudable traits of the people but very little, if there is any, on the Filipino food culture. It seems that the native Filipino cuisine is hardly talked about primarily because ours seems to be nothing but a conglomeration of the different gastronomic influences we seemed to have embraced. It is not evident to most people that although Filipino cuisine do not seem to be ‘original’ and inherently Filipino, the native composition of the ingredients and how their flavors play and blend together makes every dish a truly and uniquely pinoy — an exotic fusion of taste and life!

The history of the Philippines roughly dictates the state and form of the Filipino food culture. The Philippines has developed a fusion cuisine which resulted from the blending of several foreign influences (Chinese, Spanish, American plus a host of others) with the native elements. Only the Muslims in Mindanao and several isolated tribes scattered all over the archipelago were able to escape the cultural adulteration which the Filipino culture was subjected to since the coming of the Malay settlers, the Chinese traders, the Spanish, the Americans and then the whole world.

The Filipino cuisine has Chinese, Malay, Middle Eastern, Indian, Spanish, American and even Japanese influences with the distinctive bold exotic blend of salty, sweet, sour and spicy taste, though most dishes are not typically spicy except for those originating in the Bicol Region and the Muslim areas. The marriage of these different cuisines with the native food staples produced a lot of interesting dishes of amazing mélange which have become integral parts of the Filipino food culture. Many of these dishes are apparently not Filipino in origin yet one cannot exactly say and pinpoint its root since it is a mishmash of different influences yet in a sense has developed and retain its Filipino flavor.

The Filipino food culture has evolved over several centuries from its chief roots but the Filipinos have maintained the traditional three main meals a day plus an afternoon snack called meriénda up until these days. As with most countries, the food plays a very important part in the Philippine society; Filipino food culture is very relevant and active in all phases of the people’s lives.

The kinds and variety plus the amount of food served during occasions often measure the prestige and status of the family. Most often, the significance and magnitude of an event or a tribal ritual is often indicated by the type, array and variety of food prepared. The food served in a Filipino home largely depends on different factors like the season, locality, and the economic status of the family as well as the culinary skills of the Filipino wife.

It is undeniable that most people after 35 have recurring bouts of poor memory or absentmindedness. This is what we sometimes refer to as the ‘senior moments’ which we try to ignore yet its annoying presence is almost always felt.

But have you ever wondered why some people experience it a lot while others seldom feel it? Is it because of genes? Or, perhaps level of intelligence? Almost. But not quite.

It has something to do more with how you utilize your brain power. To get a clear picture, imagine yourself staying in bed for a week; doing nothing and you are not sick. On the 7th day, try to stand up. What would you feel? Weak, right?

That’s the same thing that happens to your brain. Once you stop using it or you just use it occasionally, it will atrophy. This is the same thing that happens to your muscle once you stop using them.

So what do you do to avoid and circumvent this ‘senior moment’ irritation? Easy, Same thing with what you do for your muscles —exercise your mind. Having a regular mental workout will be very beneficial to you. A twice a week indulgence in mental training for 30-60 minutes will allow you to go through your daily life with not much ‘senior moments’ getting in your way.

One technique which you can do is called basic word association. I believe this is not new to you but let me illustrate how to do it properly. Since the mind store data in pictures and not words or abstractions so whenever you want to remember something, associate it with vivid, colorful images. In this way, your brain can easily store the picture and when you try to recall it, it will be very easy.

Pegging is another method you can do to help you improve and enhance your short term memory. Pegging is simply creating a place where you can store your vivid, colorful images so that recalling it will be much easier. When pegging something, it is like putting your daily jewelry in just one place or hanging your keys on the same hook every day. If you know where you keep it, you don’t have to look for it the next time you need it.

Practicing both mental workouts might be a little awkward at first but once you do them regularly, they will automatically become part of your system.
